Asbestos » Residential » Residential Situations

Before we knew of the hazards asbestos posed to health, it was common to find asbestos in walls to improve fire resistance and improve sound absorption in homes.
As a general rule, if the building was built before 1990 it is highly likely that it would have some materials containing asbestos.
In Australia asbestos is generally found in the form of Asbestos Cement.

The cement was used in sheeting such as:
  • Wall sheets
  • Roofing sheets
  • Fencing sheets
  • Eves
The cement was also used in drainage and guttering pipes.

High to moderate levels of asbestos are generally found in:
  • Ceiling cavities
  • Wet areas
  • Sleepouts

Removal of asbestos related materials from areas of your home are essential and during this process steps need to be taken to ensure that contamination does not occur.

Play it safe with asbestos. If you are unsure whether a material contains asbestos, assume that it does and call us!
